What You’ll Learn:

Day 1

  • Master the art of setting out right angles and rectangles using a tape measure.
  • Gain proficiency in levelling techniques with Rotating Lasers and Dumpy Levels.
  • Learn to record levelling work following industry standards, employing methods like Rise & Fall Collimation.
  • Participate in live-level surveys, applying the skills learned.
  • Understand the intricacies of level checking for site calibration, including the 2-peg test.
  • Expertly establish datums at fixed levels.
  • Interpret inverted staff readings for soffits and transfer temporary benchmarks (TBMs).
  • Set up profile boards for both building and road projects.

Day 2

  • Acquire hands-on experience in setting up Total Station and perform site calibration checks.
  • Navigate data management within the Total Station.
  • Explore essential programmes for setting out, including measurement, stakeout, and reference lines.
  • Delve into GPS and Machine Control operations.
  • Practice setting out diverse construction elements such as drainage, foundations, and kerbs.
  • Set up batter rails for precise cut and fill operations.
  • Gain expertise in as-built surveys and quality assurance.

Day 3

  • Dive into the specifics of roads earthworks, covering profiles and cut & fill operations.
  • Develop proficiency in setting out and verifying structural steelwork.
  • Learn to read and interpret reinforcement drawings and schedules accurately.
  • Explore the nuances of setting out kerbs and finishes, especially in car park projects.
  • Understand the essentials of drainage, including manholes, pipes, and pipe laser readings.

Days 4 & 5

  • In-depth exploration of AutoCAD for Site Engineers/Setting Out Engineers.
  • Learn how to create lines, circles, texts, and 3D objects in AutoCAD.
  • Acquire skills in taking dimensions and coordinates from drawings.
  • Understand area, perimeter, and volume calculations within AutoCAD.
  • Master drawing scaling and rotation techniques.
  • Explore drawing layers and efficient drawing management.
  • Learn to import, export, and overlay drawings in the correct file formats.
  • Discover the art of PDF to AutoCAD and AutoCAD to PDF conversions.
  • Integrate AutoCAD drawings into Total Station.
  • Gain insight into setting up drawing templates for consistency.
